Solutions for producing impactful video content despite the pandemic.

Though Covid-19 has changed and challenged the nonprofit world considerably, we know that you haven’t stopped serving your clients. As professionals who specialize in producing videos for nonprofits, we know it is still not safe to visit schools, hospitals, private homes and other locations to work as we normally do. However, that doesn’t mean we can’t produce effective and powerful video content to help you continue to serve and uplift your communities.

Here are 3 solutions for video production for nonprofits during Covid-19 that yield excellent results:

  • Filmed by client - no risk of exposure

In the fall of 2020, during the height of the pandemic, we produced a recruitment video for the Columbia Neurology Department. With our guidance, all interviews and b-roll were shot by staff with phones and computers while everyone stayed safely distanced. We then edited this footage and combined it with archival assets, graphics and music. And although the video doesn’t look quite as fancy as when we filmed with our crew on location, looks are not all that matter! The video we produced during Covid-19 has an authentic and familiar feel that was very effective in conveying to prospective fellows how excellent, supportive, and exciting the neurology program at Columbia is.

  • Voice-over - no risk of exposure

We can produce updated video content by using a voice-over of current messaging combined with existing b-roll, graphics, and music to illustrate what the voice-over is conveying. No production is needed, all the work is done off site, and the project 100% covid safe.

  • Minimal crew - low risk of exposure

We can send a minimal crew of 2 or even just one crew member to a location. Crew members are tested for Covid-19, as are the people being interviewed. All equipment is sanitized, masks worn and social distance kept. Producers sit in on the shoot via Zoom to keep the people on set to a minimum. This footage is edited together with graphics, music and existing assets to produce a compelling video.

Any project can be a combination of these three solutions. Imagine a project where an executive director gets interviewed with a camera person present to film to ensure the quality is best, then we edit to voice over, overlay it with existing footage and cut to zoom calls with other participants, adding graphics and music throughout.

During the pandemic people are accustomed to videoconferencing with people in their home offices, and even though the quality of the image may not be quite as good, it will feel authentic and heartfelt. This we will use to our advantage when producing an effective video during Covid-19.
